Declaration from the Federation of Afghanistan Journalists and Media Organizations
On this third of May, in the spirit of unity and progress, we extend warm congratulations to all esteemed journalists, media organizations, and advocates of free expression worldwide in commemoration of International Press Day.
Recognizing the indispensable role of journalism in fostering vibrant and informed societies, we affirm May 3rd as a testament to the ongoing pursuit of human connectivity and societal advancement. Despite facing formidable challenges, journalists in Afghanistan have steadfastly upheld the principles of free speech and information dissemination, laying the groundwork for cooperation, development, and excellence.
We express gratitude to the resilient journalists who, amid economic adversity, have courageously defended the public’s right to know. It is our fervent hope that, in the face of adversity, Afghan journalists will continue to fulfill their sacred duty with unwavering dedication. We appeal to the global community to bolster journalism in Afghanistan through both material and moral support, emphasizing the imperative of safeguarding press freedom.
Furthermore, we urge the Afghan De facto government to enhance access to information and to address journalist-related issues exclusively through the Media Complaints and Violations Commission. Let us march forward with unity and respect, ensuring a future where journalism thrives as a beacon of truth and accountability.
Respectfully,
Leadership Team of Journalists and Media Organizations in Afghanistan
